Santander Gives £5000 Grant
16th August 2013: Ellie’s Haven has received a £5,000 grant from the Santander Foundation to help renovate a property which will provide short-break holidays for severely disabled children and their families.
The grant was provided via the Foundation’s Community Plus initiative which provides grants of up to £5,000 for projects that help disadvantaged people in local communities. The scheme is open to small local charities or local projects of national charities with funding available to cover salaries, equipment or materials.
The money will go towards the refurbishment of the charity’s property in Duloe, situated near Looe in South East Cornwall. The property needs extensive work including the installation of ramps, bathroom and bedroom adaptations, plus the construction of a sensory room and tranquillity garden.
Nigel Libby, General Manager and Co-Founder at Ellie’s Haven said: “We are extremely grateful to the Santander Foundation for this grant. As a small community-led charity every penny counts towards our goal of opening a holiday haven to offer disabled children and their families’ free short-breaks. This grant will inspire our fundraisers and volunteers and help us get closer to our target.”
Kim Rowe, Branch Manager at Santander’s Liskeard branch said: “Community Plus allows our staff and customers to nominate local charities that are most in need of assistance. We are delighted to be supporting the Ellie’s Haven and hope the donation makes a real difference to local people.”
