We encourage individuals and community groups to stage fund-raising events. If you are planning an event please contact us well in advance, using this  online form, so we can publicise it ourselves.

How to get started on staging a fundraising event

Organising a fundraising event can be a lot of fun.  You just need to pick the right idea, plan ahead, keep us informed, go manic on publicity and finally, help other people stage events by telling us how it went.  

Just follow these 5 steps:

Step 1: Come up with an idea. 

If you haven’t got one already have a look through some of the past events that people have staged for Ellie’s Haven.  It’s a good idea to start with something that’s relatively small and simple – something that you know would appeal to people you know. If you need some advice, please get in touch; we can put you in contact with people with lots of previous experience. 

Step 2: Start planning.

Think about who you expect to come, who might help you organise the event and where and when it will be staged, bearing in mind that you might need quite a bit of time to get permission from authorities (council, police), book a venue and organise publicity.  Set a target for how much you hope to raise and draw up a budget based on realistic projections of attendance.

Step 3: Register the event with Ellie’s Haven.

Once you’ve sorted out the “what, when and where” of your event please complete and submit our online form so we can give it Ellie’s Haven’s official blessing.   Once it’s approved it will be listed on the Ellie’s Haven website.

Step 4: Advertise.

Spreading the word is the key to making your event a success.  Use all possible means – word of mouth, newspapers, posters, Facebook , local radio etc.  If possible, get people to commit to attending the event, for instance by buying tickets beforehand, so you can estimate how many people will turn up and can turn up the heat on publicity if necessary. Step 5: Report back.

Tell us how it went, preferably with a photo, so we can post a “thank you” on our website and use your experiences to help others to follow in your footsteps!
