Exciting News for 2022!
Nigel and Julie would like to take this opportunity to let you know that after 15 years and it is with a heavy heart, that they have stepped down from the running of Ellie’s Haven.
They have spent the last 18 months along with the trustees looking for a charity to merge with, that would continue providing special holidays to special people and carry on the legacy of Ellie and Ellies Haven. Most importantly a charity that had the same ethos, after speaking to several, it was clear after many meetings, telephone conversations and visits that Kids in Action based in Dunstable was the obvious choice, the synergy was perfect!!!
Kids in Action was founded in 1995, it provides support and social opportunities to children and adults with special needs. Their aim is to make a positive difference to each individual, encouraging participation in social activities, in a safe, non-judgemental environment as many experience isolation and loneliness.
In 2006 as an extension to their work they introduced family holidays by purchasing a caravan at Caister on Sea, they soon realised the positive impact that this had on their families and have grown the fleet to 4 and provided over 600 holidays to families with a member that has a disability.
The merger was completed on 31st December 2021 and we are delighted to be leaving Ellie’s Haven in such capable hands. Nigel Libby and Sandi Houghton will be joining the Kids in Action board of Trustees.
A big thank you to all our supporters
Our charity gets its name from Ellie, the daughter of Julie and Nigel Libby who founded Ellie's Haven. Ellie sadly passed away on 5th January 2012 just a few weeks before her seventh birthday. A big thank you to the hundreds of individuals, community organisations, businesses and charitable trusts that helped Ellie’s Haven raise more than £800,000 to purchase this property and adapt it for use as a special type of holiday retreat.
We still need your help!
Our running costs total about £50,000 a year so we still need your support. Please consider making a donation or helping in some other way, such as organising a fund-raising event, taking on a sponsored challenge or donating goods to our charity shop. We also need volunteers to run the shop and undertake all sorts of other tasks so please get in touch to discuss what you could do for Ellie's Haven and its guests.
