TV star Jason backs Ellie's Haven project
Date: 27th September 2007
Stage and TV star Jason Donovan has given his backing to Ellie's Haven, the holiday home for sick children and their families to be set up in Looe, Cornwall.
Donovan, who is in Cornwall for the filming of a new TV soap called Echo Beach, met the founders of Ellie's Haven, Nigel and Julie Libby, and 2-year-old Ellie who has the same terminal condition that their son, Thomas, died of six years ago.
While cradling Ellie in his arms the former Neighbours star said: "It is important to understand conditions like Ellie's and to understand how we can make a difference to the lives of these very special children.
"Because of Julie and Nigel's first-hand experiences with their son Thomas and now with Ellie, they are going to provide a facility for other families whose children have life limiting or life threatening conditions.
"I wish them all the success they so dearly deserve with Ellie’s Haven."
Nigel Libby said they are delighted to have the star's backing. "It means a lot to us that someone like Jason Donovan will take the time to find out about Ellie’s Haven and then to support us so wholeheartedly."
Earlier this week the Libbys withdrew plans for a children's hospice in Cornwall and refocused their efforts on providing a home-from-home holiday venue for children like Ellie. They made the decision after Children’s Hospice South West announced plans for a Cornwall hospice, so that there would not be competition between two campaigns.
In Echo Falls Jason Donovan plays the owner of a surf shop in the fictitious town of Polnarren.
