"The goal of the photo competition was to encourage people to join the Ellie's Haven group on Facebook. It worked.  We now have a network of more than 580 online supporters," says Nigel Libby, Ellie's father.

More than dozen schools and a number of businesses participated in the Rainbow Mufti Day, staged on Jan 22 and 25.  Each individual participant gave a small donation to Ellie's Haven, but with so many people involved, the total could eventually top last year's figure of  £7,906.05.   The event has been running for three years now.

Ellie's Haven is a charity that aims to being relief to families with children suffering from long-term and life-limiting illnesses, by offering them holidays in a purpose-designed haven in South East Cornwall.

The charity was founded in 2007 by Nigel and Julie Libby, who have a severely-disabled child, Ellie.   The charity has won widespread support from the local community, which has already raised more than £250,000 towards building costs estimated to be in the region of £1.6 million.
