Ellie's Haven is a charity that plans to offer relief to families with children suffering long term and life limiting illnesses. In order to do this, it needs to raise £700,000 to build a new type of holiday haven in south-east Cornwall.
The planned facility will enable families to stay together whilst on holiday - something that most parents would like but often can't achieve at present.
The concept also enables therapists and other professionals to help several families on a single visit to the retreat, considerably improving efficiency and cutting patient waiting lists.
A survey of prospective users indicates high demand for this non-medical centre, which is far less costly to build and operate than a conventional children's hospice. However, it complements rather than competes with hospices, focusing on providing holidays for the whole family rather than medical care for the disabled child.
The inspiration behind our charity is Ellie and her family in Looe. Ellie was severely disabled and needed round-the-clock care. She passed away on 5th January 2012, just a few weeks before her seventh birthday.
